Late Friday, the National Capital Commission selected Claridge Building Corp. as the company that will be allowed to build on the Daly site. The NCC had narrowed it down to three companies that might qualify to build on this vacant area at the corner of Rideau Street and Sussex Drive. The other finalists were Ashton Gate Development and Industrielle Alliance. Claridge's plan is for nine floors of condominiums on top of 31,850 square feet of retail space. There is also a provision for 171 underground parking spaces. NCC spokesperson Guy Laflamme said this proposal proved to be architecturally compatible with the surrounding area, as well as the most profitable of ideas. "It respects all of our objectives, in terms of mixed use of the site," he said. "And also in terms of financial benefits, it was the most profitable recommendation of all three projects." [IMAGE 1]
