The National Capital Commission's plan to rezone 24 hectares of land near the airport for leased commercial use will likely lead to a business park there, a city councillor said in reports published Wednesday. Gloucester-Southgate councillor Diane Deans was quoted Wednesday as expressing concern over the possibility the environmentally sensitive land will become a site for office buildings. Deans said the site, part of a 60-hectare parcel of Greenbelt land between Uplands Drive and the Airport Parkway, is a part of the city's disappearing green space. A 1994 study identified the land as part of a sensitive wetland area known as the Sawmill Creek watershed. Deans said she will wait to hear how her constituents feel about the issue before taking a final stand on it. A public meeting on the subject is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Hunt Club-Riverside Community Centre, according to the Ottawa Citizen.
